Oriyomi Hamzat is a prominent Nigerian broadcast journalist, human rights activist, and founder of Agidigbo 88.7 FM in Ibadan. Born in Ibadan to an NTA journalist father, he built a career in media before focusing on social justice, notably intervening in the Timothy Adegoke case. He holds a degree in Linguistics and Language Arts from the University of Ibadan.

Early Life and Education

Background: Born in the 1980s in Ibadan, Oyo State, to Asimiyu Adekunle Hamzat, a journalist with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

Education: Attended Iroko Community Grammar School, the Oyo State School of Sciences in Pade, and earned a Diploma in Geology from The Polytechnic, Ibadan.

Higher Education: Studied Mass Communication at the Polytechnic’s Eruwa Campus and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistics and Language Arts from the University of Ibadan in November 2023.

Journalism and Media Career

Career Beginnings: Started as a print journalist for The Guardian and worked with the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS).

Broadcasting: Worked with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Raypower, and 32 FM 94.9.

Agidigbo FM: Founded Agidigbo 88.7 FM in Ibadan, which serves as a platform for his investigative journalism and advocacy for the, “voiceless”.

Advocacy and Recognition

Human Rights: Known for fighting for justice, including cases involving suspicious deaths and social injustices.

Awards: Recognized with an Honorary Doctorate in Art and Communications and the International Humanitarian Service Award.
