
Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala (June 3, 1950 – January 12, 2022) was a Nigerian police officer turned politician who served as the Governor of Oyo State from 2007 to 2011. A prominent APC chieftain from Ogbomoso, he was known for massive infrastructure development, grassroots mobilization, and a rise from Deputy Governor (2003–2006) to governor.
Early Life and Career
Birth: Born June 3, 1950, in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
Education: Attended Osupa Baptist Day School and Kamina Barracks Middle School, Ghana.
Police Service: Enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force in 1974, rising to positions including Station Officer and Administrative Officer. He retired as a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP).
Political Career
Local Government: Served as Chairman of Ogbomoso North Local Government from 1999 to 2002.
Deputy Governor: Served as Deputy Governor to Rashidi Ladoja from May 2003 to January 2006.
Acting Governor: Became acting governor for 11 months (Jan 2006 – Dec 2006) during Ladoja’s impeachment.
Governor (2007–2011): Won the 2007 governorship election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His tenure focused on infrastructure, including road construction, and educational improvements.
Later Politics: Joined the Labour Party in 2014 to run for governor again, then moved to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2017.
